Kelly Schools Elements of Ceramics Eighth Grade, Class of 2022
I came into this class nervous and unexperienced since I had never taken a ceramics class before. Throughout the class we learned the different techniques on the wheel and hand building. Once we got to slabs I realized how much I loved to do them, I had more freedom and got to use much more creativity. For my project, I rolled out slabs to an even thickness then compressed them with a rib tool. I then got wooden rectangular and square molds and put my rolled-out clay into it. The molds allowed me to create the same form multiple times. After they dried I grabbed a fettling knife and stabbed them through the clay and twisted making the hole’s various sizes. I made a set of functional, yet decorative pieces.
